Open letter response to David Cohen, Variety
fxguide.com: If you are bored with the VFX industry, may I suggest changing jobs?
David Cohen, a respected and talented writer published a piece in Variety and then tweeted about it and another piece which, among other things, seemed to claim:
• he was bored with visual effects
• the public was bored with visual effects films
• there was nothing new

I agree with the author that VFX effects are not meant to be the main reason people go see a film or replace stars. I did not go see The Avengers or Spiderman because of VFX. If that were the case, why did Battleship do so poorly. It's not because people are bored with VFX effects; it was because the whole premiss was a little ridiculous and the writing and acting didn't seem too promising.
VFX effects are there to serve the story. It's one of those things that if done well shouldn't be noticed.
