Jersey Boys tour features alumni actors
The Tartan Online: An explosion of 1960s rock and roll known as Jersey Boys has made its way to Pittsburgh, and is playing at the Benedum Center until Sept. 23. This hit Broadway musical outlines famous pop band Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’ rise to fame. The tour production opened last Tuesday and has already begun playing to full houses. The current cast features two Carnegie Mellon alumni, both of whom give stellar performances.

There is always something about reading articles about Broadway shows that are featuring CMU alumni. Expecially ones that I have had the opportunity to work with. It's a weird feeling because it seems like just yesterday we were working along side them on crews for various shows. And its quite daunting to think that in that same amount of time we could be doing things just like that. I will admitt that one of the biggest draws for Carnegie Mellon was the alumni networks and how close they said they are. And since I've been here, I see that this is very true. I cannot wait until me and my class mates are the ones out there working on such amazing projects as these two CMU alumni.
This article was interesting though it was odd that it was about carnegie alums and they didn't say much about them. The show sounds very tech heavy which is interesting. I liked the idea that they have many different costumes for the same character. While admittedly numerous quick changes are never fun to organize, they make the show seem more magical.
I heard that CMU Alumni J.Southward was responsible for the technical design but he never finished it; now the show ends about halfway through the second act...
...too soon...?
I always like to hear about Carnegie Mellon students succeeding in the world outside of CMU. It gives me hope that I will succeed as well. I am impressed by how well the actors in Jersey Boys are able to play many characters so seamlessly. I have seen this show two times but I never noticed that there were so few cast members and that the few cast members that they do have play so many roles. Everyone in the show worked together extremely well.
It's so uplifting to hear that CMU alum are making a name for themselves in the buisness. It reminds me that all our hard work and sleepless nights and money spent will eventually pay off. Though I've never seen the show, hearing that the boys play all these characters so seemingly effortlessly is fantastic. I would've loved to see what their performances were like when they still went to school here. Congrats to them!
Well it certainly does seem like we'll graduate from this program with everything we need to go right into professional theatre! Yet again more alums have gone onto successful careers and it's inspiring and impressive to see such people come out of our school--especially since they both spoke about how well CMU trained them for a fast-paced show like Jersey Boys. From a theatrical standpoint, the show sounds great! Described as "sleek," and with "smooth" transitions, it seems like a technically advanced and modern show. Their use of the electronic billboard is also a great use of multimedia to set the scene and "keep the transitions moving."
