Year of the Hollywood Trial: Why 'Housewives' Is Only the Beginning
Hollywood Reporter: Did ABC really kill off Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan in retaliation for her gripes about being hit in the head by producer Marc Cherry? That's the key question for the jury in the actress' $6 million wrongful-termination and battery case, which awaits a verdict since closing arguments ended Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles. Regardless of the outcome, however, the Sheridan matter could represent merely a ripple before a coming tidal wave of high-stakes Hollywood trials.

What was interesting about this particular article is how it drew attention to the nature of these newer Hollywood scuffles. They stressed how the newer economic complications have taken it's toll on the entertainment industry. With work being hard to come by, it is no surprise that there is a fair bit of tension especially with the Sheridan case. Honestly, with limited material to compare this case with, I feel that if that Desperate Housewives star isn't safe, there aren't many stars that would be safe in this industry. I can't decide if she was wrongfully terminated, but she was a regular with a long history working on the show. This won't be the last messy case that our legal system will have to deal with. It is unfortunate that these matters are o my growing more unruly than ever before.
