TED2012: littleBits creator Ayah Bdeir
Boing Boing: Ayah Bdeir is the founder and lead engineer of littleBits, an open source library of electronic modules that snap together with tiny magnets for prototyping and play. littleBits won Popular Science's "Best of Toy Fair 2012" and Ayah was named a TED Fellow this year. I interviewed her this morning at TED2012 in Long Beach, CA.

These seem like such a good idea. I would love to play around with these. It seems like the idea of trying to make creating rudimentary machines more available to children is becoming more and more common. Each group of people are trying are trying to make it simple in their own way and I think that it would be effective to take the best part of each group of ideas and put them together. In this one I think that the best idea is the ability to magnetically snap together.
I remember when kinex released a line of solar powered kits and i thought they were shit (pardon my french) and then the release of the lego robotics line. I wish I had toys as insane as these, even not at a toy level these are great for people like me who get scared, lonely and confused when I try to figure out electronics and things like these. mostly after the time i was electrocuted while wiring the sound for a pneumatic jumper in a haunted house. mabe after playing with these for a while i can avoid that.
