Audience responds to Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's 'Streetcar Named Desire'

post-gazette.com: It's rare when both a company and its audience rise to the occasion. But Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre brought John Neumeier's daring balletic version of "A Streetcar Named Desire" to a boiling point in its American premiere at the Benedum Center on Friday night.

Wow. This production must have truly lived up to all of its expectations for such an extremely complimentary review to be written. I wish it had not been during our break, or I would have definitely bought tickets. It sounded like a very successful marriage of dance, music, and acting, which is not something I've every really experienced before. With all of its apparent popularity, I wonder why the company decided to give it such a limited run. Possibly they didn't expect all of the praise it's being given, since this is the first time this particular ballet was ever performed by an American company. It was interesting that this gushing reviewer not only complimented the performance, but the audience as well, for handling and responding to such a dark and difficult subject so well. I would have loved to be able to see it!
