Troupe embraces, shares Latino culture

For dance troupe Ballet Hispanico, two decades ago marked the first of many times that it would bring its Latino pride to Pittsburgh. Its inaugural performance here in December 1991 at the Downtown Fulton Theater (now Byham Theater) was colored with striking costumes, sensuous flamenco music and the world debut of 'El Nuevo Mundo,' a re-examination of the Christopher Columbus story, read a Pittsburgh Press review of the show.
