I for one agree with Spiderman's choice to open after the Tony deadline. All of the attention they have gotten recently could cause the votes to be tilted either in their favor or in the complete opposite direction. It's assuring to know that it won't have any major influence on all of the other plays and musicals that are in the running for nominations.
I do not think that the Spiderman producers were considering the Tony awards when they decided to postpone their show. This may create a beneficial side effect, however. There is no way they were going to win a Tony award in its current manifestation. Maybe by the time they figure things out and revamp the plot--they'll have a better shot in 2012.
