WDUQNews: "In many cities, a ball is dropped during the last ten seconds of New Year’s Eve to celebrate the coming of the New Year.
In Pittsburgh, the ball moves the other way.
“Representing the future of Pittsburgh looking up,” says First Night Director Kathryn Heidemann."

I was happy to that this article had been posted, because before AI left for break I had heard people talking about First Night but didnt really know what it was about. I think that it sounds like a unique experience, full of fun and exciting things. I like that what Pittsburg does is different from anywhere else, its nice to see something interesting and different being done on New Years. I am only sad that I will not be able to see it since I am out of town
First Night has been an even which I have associated with New Years since I can remember. Heading down to Evanston, walking around in the streets, seeing street performers, and going into old churches to see doo-wop group. Until earlier this year, I did not realize this was an even done out side of Evanston. While I have not been to one in years, I think it is a great event, especially for younger children. It allows you to be exposed to things that are outside of most people’s norm, for a relatively reasonable price. I also relay like the idea of Pittsburgh running the ball the other way. A bit cheesy, but a good message.
