‘Shrek’ - An Ogre’s Magic Is Flagging in Producing Ticket Sales
NYTimes.com: "Box office business for the big-budget musical “Shrek” has been in a downward spiral as ugly as the ogre of the title. Grosses have been steadily falling, reaching $502,479 last week, when audiences filled just over half of the show’s seats, from a high of $1.27 million in early January."

Geez, what a surprise.
Its like anything that's overproduced, the public loses interest. We don't need to see the same story, told the same way, in a different venue. The public wants to see new theatre and new ideas. That's what is appealing.
