RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA
Bring your brain on an aural odyssey with this headline-making jazz star's newest exploration of the connections between contemporary jazz and ancient Indian music. When was the last time you heard a jazzman who's drawn raves from both DownBeat and Science Magazine? Cerebral, mesmerizing, exotic, this music — a world premiere that blends technology with Western and Indian instruments — is a thinking music lover's travelogue, a trip back and forward at the same time. At the New Hazlett Theater, Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 at 9pm. CLICK HERE NOW for tickets.

KASSYS LIGA
It begins with an ending, and moves forward from there, as video melts into live action and suddenly you find yourself not just in the middle of the action, but in the center of the player's minds. From the adventurous Dutch theater company Kassys, Liga lifts the rock of polite behavior and looks at the squirming secrets beneath, exposing the universal impulse to please and the extent to which we all are susceptible to manipulation — all in brilliant physical comedy that leaves you laughing as you question your own reactions. At the New Hazlett Theatre, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 16–18, at 8pm. CLICK HERE NOW for tickets.

13 MOST BEAUTIFUL ... SONGS FOR ANDY WARHOL'S SCREEN TESTS
In the mid-60s, the New York art scene was a magnet for rebels and movie stars looking for the spots where the hottest art was happening now. And the most happening was Andy Warhol's Factory, where he made his iconic 4-minute films he called Screen Tests. Faces, from the famous to the lost, were captured in stark relief, shot by a stationary 16mm Bolex camera on silent, black and white, 100-foot rolls of film. The result was mesmerizing. Now, for the first time, a selection of Warhol's Screen Tests is being rediscovered — this time with a new score written by indie rockers Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, beloved by fans for their former band Luna's churning and languid rhythms, entrancingly melodic guitar hooks, and clever and wistful lyrics. Don't miss your chance to see these classic films in a new light, as the world premiere score is performed live on stage with the films projected above. At the Byham Theater, Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, at 8pm. CLICK HERE NOW for tickets.

LET THERE BE LIGHT.
Also being transformed this week is the Strip District's Pipe Building, where the massive installations of New York artists Doug and Mike Starn are being readied for their Gravity of Light exhibition opening on October 10. This cavernous structure is the perfect spot for this show, with it's floor-to-ceiling photos and collages, illuminated by the eerie glow of the Starns' giant, homemade carbon arc lamp, an impressive piece of art in itself. The twin artists have garnered praise for exhibitions throughout the world; now you can see their latest inspirations in this extraordinary show. The Pipe Building is at 3000 Liberty Avenue; the show runs October 10 – 30. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday noon – 6pm; Friday and Saturday noon – 8:30pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
