Lovelorn Divas Make `Wig Out!' a Glorious Drag

The show, at off-Broadway's adventurous Vineyard Theatre, concerns an epic nightclub showdown between the good female impersonators of the ``House of Light'' and the sinister denizens of the ``House of Di'Abolique.''"

This sounds like such a fun time. I think one of the things this reminds us of is that theatre is all about story telling and purpose and sometimes those can come through tragic or stony faced or melodromatic pieces, but sometimes they can come through laugh out loud, silly, drag queens. In fact drag queens probably have some of the best stories there are to tell and can do it with a sense of humor. Not eveything on stage has to be weighed down with misery, sometimes a story can be more effective with wigs and heels.
this production's "greek chorus" reminded me much of the one in the movie of Mamma Mia that came out this summer. i thought the greek chorus in the movie was so funny because the production didn't try to make it suave or artsy, they just played up the kitsch and embraced the cheese. it sounds like this musical does the same thing in playing up the fun and not worrying about the rest.
