I have never made a comment on a conservatory hour lecture but I think this deserves it. First off I was so taken back by the fact that they decided to open with someones horrible write up of the shore. After pondering why someone might expose this information out to a large group of influencial teens, I realized that this was a bizarre show. Not everyone is going to get it, and like it at that matter! It was a good thing for us to get the perspective of having someone shot down something that numerous numbers of people have been working on and putting their hearts into. They completely shit on the show but its alright because everyone took something away from that show and it was different for every single person. I know to always except the good and bad with things and this makes us more open to the non-understanding of the materials were working with.
I really appreciated having another critique/talk-back session during conservatory hour today. It was quite a difference from the initial proposal of design choices...etc. and I gained a good bit of appreciation for the process the designers and actors alike had to go through. Such an emphasis on the process was evident in even the final performance, which left the audience able to interpret what they wanted and the ideas to be broad and pertain to each person. It was great!
I loved The Other Shore and I think it was entirely a great choice for the SOD to choose to produce. Funny that the guy isn't working for that paper any more...
