Carnegie Mellon considers graduate engineering programs in Rwanda

The Tartan Online: "Rwanda’s The New Times reported and Carnegie Mellon Provost Mark Kamlet confirmed in Pittsburgh newspapers that the Rwandan government and Carnegie Mellon are exploring the possibility of Carnegie Mellon offering graduate degrees in engineering and information technology in Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali."

Africa will probably be the most rapidly developing continent in the next century, and one of the first steps is getting large universities to be a part of the process in order to develop internal growth. I think it's interesting that most Rwandans who study abroad stay away instead of returning home, especially when so many individuals who have changed history studied abroad and then applied it to their homes.

i think it's great for CMU or any schools to start up in different environment. i understand that CMU is one of the most culturally diversed universities in the country. opening a program in Rwanda can surely help support us having such a good reputation on diversity.

The only way to describe this is: wonderful. I think its great not to lose touch of the rest of the world that does not have all of the same opportunies that we have here in the states and try to "share the wealth."
