Call me shallow, but I absolutely love big spectacle musicals. Not only are they a good time, but they are fun to watch from a technical aspect, and I love that.
I haven't had the chance to see "Wicked" yet, but I hope to some day.
Having moved here recently from a small western town, I am delighted to be in a city where I have the opportunity to see big Broadway shows right here in town (if I can find time, that is!).
I love big spectacle musicals as well. I saw "Wicked" for the first time in California last year and enjoyed it immensely. What surprised me was the dramatically different interpretation of the story from the book. I take this as a good thing because Gregory Maguire must be one of the most depressing authors ever. I'd like to see "Wicked" again with different expectations - I was honestly surprised the stage version didn't end in tragedy.
Working as one of the “Merchkins” for the Wicked tour was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had freshman year. Selling merchandise was surprisingly a good way to gain insight into the life of a large Broadway tour. Simply by talking to the merchandise guys who toured with the show (Struggling MT’s, and Glenda husband) I learned the structure of the touring company. I highly suggest selling merchandise to anyone who has the time.
