This is really cool. Is it being workshopped at CMU or is Steven Schwartz just coming to talk about hte process. I'd love to see this and hear more about the whole process.
I am so overly excited about this!! One, Bubble Boy was one of my all time favorite movies, starring the lovely Jake Gyllenhaal* I am so proud to be a student here at CMU exspecially when events like this occur. (I just sent this article to my dad:)) As off-broadway, I think these workshops are so critical of the outcome of a show that it is mostly determintal not to have them. The process they are going through with this much be such an exciting event and I wish I could be apart of it! I am sure the book/score is absolutely awesome, or it might be terrible... we will soon find out, but until then, my hopes are flying high!
I am so happy!! this is awesome, I love having all of these opportunities as a CMU student, I am so proud to go here. I have heard a lot about bubble boy but have never had any exposure to the piece, I would die to attend this workshop ... what a fantastic experience.
Think it would really interesting to sit it on his class and hear what he has to say. However.... bubble boy? Really? I have this vision of the lead in a bubble suit flying around in the air cause he punctured his suit on some sharp scenery.
I am really surprised that anyone felt that writing a musical about Bubble Boy would be successful, but maybe this one will be a surprise. In the world of pop culture, the concept of the "Bubble Boy" now will forever be linked to the Seinfeld episode of the same name and the movie that absolutely bombed a few years ago. Thus, there is already a humorous/negative connotation to go along with the concept. I don't know how the playwright will use these ideas, if at all, but it will be interesting to see if the are considered.
Don't underestimate. The story sounds ridiculous, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being successful. Schwartz is a guy who seems to know what he is doing. Writing a musical about the witches of Oz sounds ridiculous when you think about it too, so who knows what a Bubble Boy show could do.
Plus the fact that they are workshopping here at CMU is pretty neat--a great opportunity for those of our students who are involved in the project.
It’s nice that we can have new work from the industry come through the school. This situation benefits everyone. The composer and authors get their show work shopped free of charge and the students get to be evolved with a professional theatrical experience. The opportunity to work with Stephen Schwartz is exciting as well.
I’m assuming this isn’t part of New Works, considering Stephen Schartz isn’t a playwriting student here. I wonder if this is the production we don’t have chairs for because of Poppea. I’ll probably go see it if I can get tickets. It sounds like an interesting show.
it seems like to be a wonderful opportunity for lots of people. it is so great to have Stephen Schwartz as part of this project. i hope to see more of these project that involves variety of people. it is usual for us to work exclusively know very well for a long time. but it is just great to have different inputs.
First off Bubble Boy is one of my all time favorite movies and is very dear to my heart (as is Jake Gyllenhal). The plot is just so fun and creative, plus the characters are so vibrant. I hope this production turns out for the best! Plus i am overjoyed to think that such an ingenious project is being undertaken by CMU! I wish everyone involved the best of luck!
