Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "For 96 talented students from 15 school districts and home schools, 'Les Miserables' is the Super Bowl, the World Series and the Stanley Cup all rolled into one."

The all county production is a new one for me. Back home we had the all state shows, which allowed the high school performers and production team the opportunity to work with oter local students from around the state on a musical production, though one of the things I noticed was a major issue with the all state model was that in states, such as Missouri (and Pennsylvania) where major cities are on different sides of the state, rehearsals, and builds came in the form of blitz weekends that had mediocre results. I wonder if confining this to a county helps alleviate the proximity issue and perhaps raises the potential for a more successful production.

This sounds really interesting, but I'm saddened by the fact that the article didn't mention how the technical team will be put together at all. I'd be interested to know if it will be done on a similar basis as the acting, or if they will just get adult staff to build and design the show. It's always good to see increased community involvement and more support for theater though.

I have to think that this probably would be done as a "blitz weekend", and from a technical standpoint, it probably is fairly difficult. After working on Brigadoon at Gateway, I've quickly discovered that a lot of the high schools around Pittsburgh tend to hire adults to work on their shows, and don't really have solid high school crews to design their shows. This makes me think that the design team for this Les Mis will probably consist mostly of adults.

Is this kind of like band, but with theater? I guess. In the 5th grade I drove 3 hours to play in the all-state band....I played trumpet. I didn't quite care for it then....but now I wish I still played

So, in conclusion.
If you are in theater, you should go do this, and love it. Because if you don't then you will never be an actor and regret it your entire life.

As I do with the trumpet.
