Very High Bond Tape

Toolmonger: "Double-stick tape can be a third hand when you’re doing assembly projects. While it holds the pieces, you can work on creating a permanent attachment. 3M’s VHB tapes comes in a variety of double stick flavors, and they can help you out as a third hand — what makes ‘em cool, though, is the bond is so strong on VHB tapes, you may not need anything else"

"A piece of VHB got stuck to the top of my ladder, and I couldn’t get that piece off without actually damaging the surface of the ladder." Now thats pretty impressive... Maybe we will see some of this VHB tape in our shop some day... though I doubt it. Wood glue and staples sound much more reliable.

I've actually had to use this kind of stuff and it really is kind of astonishing how strong it is. The range of usage is ridiculous because this stuff will literally hold anything (within reason). I think it's really cool to be able to have that kind of strength on a piece of tape though sometimes I wonder if it gets in the way of using rated connections that are traditionally used. I guess it would be cool to see something made using VHB for all the terminations but I think I would be a little scared for my life.

This tape sounds really cool, but for that kind of price, it better work the miracles that he claims it can. It seems like something you would only use in very specialized cases where nothing else will work-either because of surface limitations or the fact that you don't want the fasteners to be visible.

This was actually a pretty interesting article. Here in CMU Drama we have a lot of tools and resources that we can use in order to learn how to use tools and to fail and succeed at things. As my class mates have seen I have constantly failed and failed many times in my first attempts towards many design projects however since there are so many tools and different ways to do things as long as you have the time you can try and learn many ways to do things. Penn State's class where the more daring you are and the more failures you get the better your grade is really funny. While that is funny it is also a great idea and hopefully it will get students to break out of their shells and try new things.

My comment above was for the article above it on the blog page.
