Spamalot to Close in Vegas

Stage-directions: "Cast and crew of the Las Vegas production of Spamalot at the Wynn Resort and Casino were told before their April 16 show that Spamalot would be closing July 13. The crew was informed that Danny Gans, an impressionist currently playing at the Mirage would take its place. This is the second Broadway-style show to close in Vegas this year, following the February closing of Mel Brooks' Producers at the Paris."

This sounds really out of the blue. Of all the broadway style shows mentioned in the article Spamalot is very Vegas-like. Perhaps some other show is coming through and needs a space. Hopefully something with a little more substance. However, this is Vegas so it might be a waste.

I'm not surprised at all by the closing, it's a fad for musicals in Vegas to go through this. You really need to pump up the spectacular to keep Vegas audiences interested and perhaps Spamalot didn't make that cut. Comedies only last so long in Vegas anyways unless it can change its act, which musicals obviously cannot do.

Its so interesting that all of these musicals are tanking in Vegas. It seems like such a waste. They get to build their own theaters and have practically free reign (minus that pesky 90 minute time limit thing) and the shows still miraculously are all flopping. I think I'm with nicole here... perhaps broadway spectacle isn't right for vegas?
