Soap-Like Drama Fuels Actor Union Woes

Backstage: "The bitter weekend divorce between two actors unions in upcoming contract talks with Hollywood producers mirrors a scene from a daytime soap opera — and casts stars from the genre in pivotal roles."

This is a really upsetting article. The entire point of a union is to protect it's members from those big bad money-crazed people who run the industry, and it's terrible that you cannot trust these unions to do their job. I think that these actors should be able to keep their means of defense against the producers, and it's ridiculous that they've lost some of their power.
