I think it's good that there is more artistic guidance coming into Japanese theater. But at the same time, not everything needs to be done the Western way. I hope that the wholesale introduction of Western theatrical ideas into Eastern theater doesn't become a theme, or we might lose of the uniqueness of the Japanese theatrical art forms.
It's odd in a way to think that there were no artistic directors though I guess it would make sense since the art had been mastered in a very specific way for so many years. I think it's cool that they've begun to do this though I wonder if Kendra is right about there being a detrimental change to the art form.
