Yea, this is nice to see that theater exists in hits all over the country. I do sometimes think that broadway is way too overrated, I mean there are theater goers to be found anywhere, just put on a good show.
One reason that I think South Pacific is so popular right is for the reason that there is nothing like it on Broadway right now. Most of Broadway has started to move toward shows such as Spring Awakening and others. But South Pacific is one of the classics that all generations can enjoy. The generation that grew up with musicals like this want a chance to revisit it and remember the old times musicals. And the younger generation of today who are just eating up Spring Awakening are seeing the old musicals like South Pacific and enjoying the difference.
yay, I am so glad this is doing well. I was worried that Broadway audiences wanted to see the next 'Passing Strange' but perhaps the old R&H musicals will be coming back. Congrats to Bob Lenzi as well for being part of a such a successful show...yay alumni
I don't get it. I feel like I know what makes a show tick and turn into a mega hit on Broadway, and then something like this goes and steals thousands of audiences members from all other Broadway shows. Maybe it goes along with what Kelli is saying, shows generally gather more success when they are the only show of its kind upon introduction. I guess we have to rejoice the fact that broadway is making SOME money.
The article makes it out like an old show is beating the odds by being a hit. Its exactly the opposite. Its a huge revival, everyone wants to check this out.
