Having seen two of the three versions of Sweeney Todd mentioned in this article (the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie and the John Doyle 2005 Broadway revival), I agree with the panel that it is an excellent show, although my personal preference was the Burton/Depp movie because the story line is easier to follow. However, the clever effects used by Doyle in the revival are quite effective — as an audience member I got a similar reaction from the figurative blood in the revival as I did from the effects in the Burton movie.
