Kate Burton - Spring Awakening

New York Times: "EARLY in the first act of “Spring Awakening,” the hit Duncan Sheik musical about teenage lust in 19th-century Germany, Kate Burton throws open her blouse, revealing a lacy, low-cut corset, and does a bouncy, hoochie-coochie dance into the face of her young co-star, Gerard Canonico. She looks as if she’s having a lot of fun. (So does he.) But not as much fun as in the last scene, when Ms. Burton — a Serious Thespian herself and the daughter of another, Richard Burton — sings and dances in a buoyant group number."

'No offense to my L.A. actors, but I’m a real actress, not a fake actress.' She laughed.”

That's a pretty lofty statement coming from someone supposedly down-to-earth. Sure she can cover it up with a laugh and a "No offense" statement, but that's a pretty stupid thing to say in this industry. Sure L.A. may be the representation of commercialized entertainment, but it is horrendous to make such a generalization. It sounds to me that her "glamorous upbringing" may have stunted her ability to follow the advice of Atticus Finch:

"If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."

You know, one of those lessons you're supposed to learn before you hit the age of 13.

(Flame off...)
