Mark Fisher on Elizabeth LeCompte's La Didone

Guardian Unlimited Arts: "Planet of the Vampires is a 1965 Italian sci-fi horror movie of questionable artistic merit about two spaceships crash-landing on a planet where the dead come back to life, zombie-like, right up out of their graves. La Didone, meanwhile, is a 1641 opera written by Francesco Cavalli about the impossible love affair between Dido and Aeneas. It is one of the world's most tragic stories, first told in Virgil's Aeneid. Who would have thought these two things, a schlock movie and an early opera, could be successfully fused?"
