'GREASE' & DESIST
New York Post Online Edition: "THE folks involved in 'Grease' have been brag ging for a week now about ticket sales - $9 million and counting for a revival that doesn't open until July."

I've seen the show once and it's just as bad as anyother reality show. The contestants were very typical with no real spark, nothing that makes you want to pay Broadway prices to watch them again. I think its hilarious that everyone who per-ordered tickets are now asking for a refund!
I'm not really sure why the ticket agencies weren't expecting this to happen... Sure, opening the casting to the television audience was great publicity and caused a rush of people to buy tickets in advance, but when the danny and sandy they didn't want were cast... talk about a disappointment. This review was pretty harsh on the producers of the show.. it sounds like they are relying too heavily on the gimmick of the show instead of being focused on strong production values. we'll see i guess..
This article is in short...amazing. The commentary is slightly harsh but so true. There is a reason why most theatre people didn't like this reality series and I think its hilarious that in many ways its back firing. Although I know of many reality TV upsets, such as we constantly see in American Idol; its funny that because there was unwanted winners, they want their money back.
I'm so glad that reality show didn't do well. If they'd kept that up, we might as well all just moved to another country. It defeats SO much of what we do. It's so ridiculous. I can't stand that they would turn something as intimate as theatre into this nationally televised casting call.
People bought tickets for the show before they knew who would win? That's kind of ridiculous on their part to just assume that their favorite would win. It's also interesting that they sold an extra 1 million tickets than there were viewers for the last show. I just understand people sometimes, apparently.
