Post Gazette: "As I'm leaving a play, it's not unusual for someone to stop me and say he or she can't wait for my review, to find out what we just saw.
On the way out of Gao Xingjian's 'Nocturnal Wanderer' at Pitt, I had that same feeling and would have been happy to be able to accost myself and demand an explanation. 'Nocturnal Wanderer' has me baffled."

After having learnt in Foundations III that writing has the power to alleviate a persons pressures from society during the Enlightenment period in England, it is still apparent today. In order to liberate himself, playwright Gao Xingjian has turned to playwrighting. What I find amazing is how he has turned to the style of the absurd. Although it is said that the play has no plot or true meaning, I think I will find it more meaningful than any ordinary play. With the absurdist plays, it is from nothing or the unexplained that our imagination takes us to unexpected places and I believe that this play might just do that. It is the interpretation that matters regardless of if it is correct or not. Although the critic was baffled and had broken his response down to an experience, I think that is the beauty of the style. An experience is more than enough to be a good piece of theater.
