Slobs at the Top
New York Times: "“The rule for too many people these days is that you have to dress like a homeless person once you’ve made it big,” said Simon Doonan, a writer and the creative director of Barneys New York. “But what could be more fun than making a mistake by getting tarted up?” Of course, Mr. Doonan has it easy. He is a New Yorker and lives where people still try hard to look their best and enjoy doing so. What’s more, he’s a gay man from Greenwich Village who sometimes appears in his lobby dressed as Queen Elizabeth."

I agree with the guy who said something to the effect of 'What could be more fun than getting made fun of for dressing up?" I absolutely agree. There is somethign missing in the world as far as celebrities and top notch A-listers wearing jeans and a t-shirt to special events. Maybe its that they feel like they go to about 20 a day, so they might as well feel comfortable. Maybe its because they own every single cocktail dress known to man and are tired of it. I guess I could understand that. But, when you're going to a gala, or the opera, I think it is absolutely necessary to wear appropriate attire (dress, heels, coat, clutch). There are no acceptions to that rule. It is a tradition and that is just what you do. And if you can afford it, ya better damn well do it. If not, you look like a complete slob (as the title of the article suggests).
