Okay, I am going to make a big admission here. I think that it is great that R. L Stine's books are so popular, but at what point does it become a bad thing that these books become movies so fast? Are kid taking the time to read the books, or are they just waiting for the movie. As theatre people, I think that we should all be concerned with "story" and the concept of telling a good story - after all, performance is the natural translation of story onto stage. But should we be at all concerned when our children forget to read the story in favor of the earier medium of movies?
I think its great that more things are filming in Pittsburgh. It has been a while since I have heard of anything filming in the three rivers area. If Steelwork Entertainment is trying to get more films here I say good for them. I will welcome the opportunity for more work in the city. On a side note, I believe an actor from the class of ’06 is playing Chloe, in that MTV show.

the example i have of kids watching movies and not reading is the harry potter books. when they become popular everyone was sooo excited that kids where reading again, and this was going to bring back reading....so why did they make a movie out of it. now this book that made kids read again, is in movie form, so who's going to read the books.
So its great that the movie business is starting to pick up in Pittsburgh again. I suppose that we need to take baby steps on getting back to what it was in the day with movies being made all the time in Pittsburgh, and not just crappy ones. But is it a detriment to the city that there are really just crappy B or even C list movies being made here? Even Mysteries of Pittsburgh, though its a feature film that will be in theatres, is a kind of crappy movie with a dumb plot (but that is open to interpretation). I think that the state and the city need to look into the incentives that they have for people making movies in Pennsylvania. There is only a certain amount of money that goes back to movie makers in PA and for every year that a major motion picture with a 30 bazillion dollar budget is made in the state, say M. Night making Signs in Philly, then any other movie that is made that year gets nothing in return because the state has hit the limit on returns. If we really want to draw a movie business back to Pittsburgh or even Pennsylvania, then there are some policies that should perhaps be reviewed.
