The schmucks of CBGB
Slate Magazine: "The captain goes down with the ship, and when famed Bowery club CBGB closes Sunday night, it'll be with a final send-off by Patti Smith."

It is sad that society isn't willing to support venues like CBGB. Musicians need a place to express their art where they can be connected to other musicians and fans. If places like CBGB keep closing, will we end up with entire bands playing on the street for loose change?
While I agree that it's a shame the public isn't rallying more support to save CBGB, I wonder why the bands who have made their break don't give more back to the places where they started off. A huge part of the arts community is that it must give back to itself. Because art is at times incredibly controversial and difficult for the public to understand, fellow artists should extend a hand to those who are trying to get by. If you make your break, you should put one foot on the next step but keep one foot in your roots to help people who haven't found their break yet. - Maddie Regan
I agree with what Rebecca, Maddie and Aaron have said. it seems that CGBG is such a cultural part of our society, down to theior logo beign printed on Urban Outfitter's t-shirts. It seems upsetting that one of the greatest and most prestegious clubs to play in, as well as one that will give opportunities to no-name bands has broken down. -Harriet
