Performing-arts convention to raise city's profile
DenverPost.com: "Denver has been selected over Miami to host the second National Performing Arts Convention in June 2008. This week-long gathering, held every four years, will draw more than 5,000 to Denver, making it the largest assembly of performing-arts professionals in U.S. history."

As a born-Coloradan, I can only say YAY! It is great that Colorado will be hosting this event. And the DCPA (Denver Center for Performing Arts) has been a really wonderful arts organization for many years, with a lot of support from the community. I have seen many performances there, including the 2000 production of "Tantalus" which was a 3 day spectacular retelling of the greek history of the Iliad and Odyssey, following the complete heritage of the house of Tantalus. When a company is willing to take that kind of risk, you have to give them huge kudos.
On the other hand, does Colorado really need yet another excuse to entice more tourists. I'm from Steamboat Springs, and we are all trying to find places to hide from those pesky tourists!
