Microsoft makes $1 million pledge to group building Bellevue theater
The Seattle Times: "The company decided to make the donation because the theater will benefit employees and the community, including children who will see performances and perform there themselves, said Jane Broom, senior program manager for local community affairs."

Its a great thing to see a large corporation serve as such a major philanthropist. Gates understands the importance of both art (in this case) and science(that large eye sore to built in the back of Purnell) to the growth a civilization.
The sentiments and motivation behind the donation are fantastic. Growing a connection between the arts and computers is a great way for microsoft to reach out to the arts community - especially as the arts and computers become increasingly integrated through design, photography, graphic art, etc. However, microsoft is now developing a reputation for donating a large sum of money to make a huge project seem possible, but really results in stranding the newly found organization in a sea of debt. Let's hope the new facility is enough of a success to avoid this. - Maddie Regan
