Apple claims 30 inch cinema display boosts productivity
Lifehacker: "A controversial new study funded by Apple shows that an upgrade from a 17-19 inch monitor to a 30-inch screen results in these extreme increases in productivity"

Makes sense - larger screen would allow for files to be easily read in full size or greater; if theres more space between folders and icons than it's easier to make broader strokes w/ your mouse than to be precise w/ it.
Not that i doubt the benfits of a larger screen, but it's interesting that this study was run by the apple computer company, who, of course, has nothing to gain by convincing the world that a larger, more expensive screen, or a second screen altogether is better for not only better for productivity but apparently your health as well. Good thing the people at apple are such humanitarians.
It's good to know that. Since last month I have started plugging my little lap top into my forty inch TV because it is just easier to read and work with. (People who oppose to buying a bigger Computer screen should do this!) Bigger things are just so much easier to work with and I'm glad Apple has finally realized this. Although Sam has a great point about how Mac may just be saying this for advertizing purposes, I don't oppose to their point of view entirely. Mac has revolutionized computing and have made it much easier to use and navigate. I want to believe that they are still doing that so I do believe they are saying this only in the best interest of their customers.
I have to go with Miho a bit on this one. Though don't forget that Apple has also made a fortune on the tiny things in life. For example, my 23" monitor attached to my MacMini is a great combination. Having been a mac fan for years, I do have a little bias, but it makes me very happy to see some mac haters coming around to the idea that a mac might just be usefull. I know that my monitor helps me CAD a lot faster than my laptop's 15" screen, so the point is made and well received. Now if only I have some money in apple stocks, I could be benefiting from their profits.
Of course they do...they profit from selling them! Larger screens, while a nice plus for things like drafting, editing, and graphics work, are cumbersome and awkward for simple things like word processing and email. In addition to this, the cinema display has many issues with backlight consistency and general quality. We replaced several of these over the summer. They look snazzy but they really aren’t any better than the similarly priced highdef monitors out there. Just because apple makes nice looking things, doesn't mean they are actually the best products...but you can still fool people into thinking that i suppose.
