The Show Goes on in New Orleans

actorsequity.org | News #038; Media: "One year has passed since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. It has been a year of extreme sacrifice and frustration for the many people who call this region home. Over the year, we have received aid and sympathy from people of all economic and social levels and feel grateful and most fortunate for we could not have survived to this point without it."

Coming from a region of the country that has a history of flooding, I can understand the devistation that high waters bring. The city where I went to undergrad, Grand Forks, was hit my a horrible flood in 1997. Up until Katrina, it was one of the largest public evacuations ever. The thing that truly amazes me is the abiity of art to draw a community together. Theatre is an excellent medium for inspiration, encouragement, and commemoration. I am glad to see that artists are still coming together to contribute to their community.
