Explore the Cutting-Edge Art Spectacle That Was Mirage Festival

The Creators Project: Last week, the European cultural epicenter that is Lyon, France, hosted the third annual Mirage Festival, an event dedicated to new methods of creation and digital expression, and the artists at work exploring them. First started by Dolus & Dolus, the five-day media art celebration stayed true to its original mission: to gather an audience around performances, installations, exhibitions, parties, and talks, and to offer some of the most cutting-edge audiovisual gigs in the industry.

It’s becoming quite obvious that projection mapping is become the future of media, not to say that something more interesting is soon to follow. I’ve recently become very interested in the projection mapping technique, its implementation has become spread across many disciplines and mediums. I’ve seen many instillations, and it quite amazing to see what can be considered the closest we’re getting to holographs. But more and more I’ve begun to see people who are taking it to the next level and creating visual shows that aren’t just flat, but visually and auditory interacting. And also are beginning to incorporate other elements, such as physical mechanics or even biology and live surfaces! Now with the use of Arduinos and blue tooth even more is being done with them in terms of creating interactive surfaces, I’m hoping to learn more on the process of projection mapping, it’s astonishing the impact it could have in even non-entertainment related fields.
