Having the chance to be surrounded by theater in your hometown is such a great privilege. I can’t imagine that I would be going to school for anything theater related or even be aware this was a possibility, if it wasn’t for my parent being able to take me to see shows throughout my childhood. I think that all of these touring companies are doing a great service to the communities that they serve, by going out of their way to make sure that even in places where the theater community is small or completely obsolete, people have access to theater.
This is especially true for the theaters who specifically serve an audience of children. I have to imagine that it is amazing experience as child to go to a play if you have never seen one before and even better if the company stays to run workshops and classes with you.
