Performance Designers from Across the World Battle to be in Cardiff Showcase

Lighting&Sound America Online - News: Performance designers from across the world are so keen to showcase their work at this September's first UK-hosted edition of World Stage Design that the event's Cardiff-based director says each exhibition slot could have been filled six times over. The event runs September 5-15, 2013. World Stage Design is a 10 day festival celebrating international performance design work via a program of performances, exhibitions, workshops, talks and a competition to design and build an innovative theatre space using sustainable materials.

Programs like this are a really great way to introduce people to theatre as well as appreciate those who work to create the magic one sees on stage. It also great that there is such interest from the design world to fill these spaces. Having six times the entries for the space available is a wonderful problem to have. It ensures a little competition which allows for the best of the best to be showcased. It is sad that all designers and designs can't be showcased, and I would love to see more of the exhibitions hosted on a smaller scale in order to give more, maybe less well known designers a chance to show their talent. I also think its really cool that this is an international exhibition. It fosters and idea of international collaboration, and collaboration is an important aspect of theatre.
