Why Christopher Nolan is taking Batman to the rustbelt

guardian.co.uk: "Underneath the gritty charm depicted in productions such as Wonder Boys, Flashdance, and the American version of Queer as Folk, there's also the lurking fear contained in the work of the city's best-known director, George A Romero, whose locally shot films include Night of the Living Dead and Martin, about a Pittsburgh-area grocery bag boy convinced that he is a vampire.

As the article states I think Pittsburgh is the prefect town for Batman to film. Unlike what most people think Pittsburgh is relatively clean, downtown can easily act as uptown of Gotham (although they probably film that part using Pittsburgh), but most importantly there is also the darker steel town parts that really mesh with Nolan's take on Batman. It will be interesting to see how much they film while in town.

The whole idea of the dark knight coming to pittsburgh in the end is because of tax incentives. its not a coincidence that they waited to announce whether the filming would return to chicago or head to pittsburgh the same week it was decided that Pennsylvania would keep its tax incentive and Illinois cut a large percentage of theirs. yes its a good city for the film and yes believe me i am so happy that the film is coming here, but at the end of the day the film is coming here because of the dollar , the dollar rules the film industry plain and simple.

I agree that Pittsburgh is the perfect place to film the move. Pittsburgh has such a diverse range of possible filming locations. Jared does make a good point that the film industry is ruled by money. But thats just the way it is. I think it all worked out.
I found it odd that the article said Pittsburgh's population is declining especially because its ranked as the number one place in america to live.
