Labor Union, Redefined, for Freelance Workers

New York Times: "By creating a new type of union for nontraditional workers, Ms. Horowitz hopes to help revive the labor movement. Its membership has slipped to just 7.4 percent of the private-sector work force, down from one-third in 1960."

it's good to see that more and more artists are finding ways to represent themselves. I wonder how a union would work and what would be union work vs. non union work. I also know that many graphic designers will work on a barter system so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Yeah, mom was a freelance graphic artist for a long while and she often worked on barter. It will also be interesting to see how so many different types of jobs can be covered by one union, when so many of them are unrelated.
