I am honestly very glad that such an institution is able to continue on such a stable path. I worked as an audio-video engineer last year for the CMU school of music, and it was this position that introduced me to and really allowed me to appreciate chamber and symphony orchestras. As one of the cameramen, one of my jobs was to decide whether to focus on a small part of the orchestra to highlight a specific section, or to zoom out to a wide shot to show the entire orchestra. This required taking an active part in listening to the music, and watching the action of the musicians on the stage. I would identify patterns and melodies, refrains and motifs, and act accordingly to get the best part of a very technical solo, or an entire section moving in perfect synchronicity. It was really another world of appreciating music.
