I love theme parks. I can’t say the rides that really stick in my mind are the ones where you sit in a slightly moving chair and overlook a landscape, but that’s not to say some of them aren’t good. Personally, I enjoy the more thrilling rides, but this competition sounds like it may be something of interest to me. I am actually taking a Guest Experience and Theme Park Design class as my elective this semester, and I have already learned about what people enjoy most from rides and how to tailor each ride to your audience. Vancouver is also an awesome city that I wouldn’t mind “flying over,” in a ride. I do have a bigger question, however, is this ride part of an amusement park? It says in the article that they send you a video of what they would expect from this ride, but is $10,000 enough to make a quality video that people would want to see if it was a stand alone ride? There are lots of pros and cons to consider with this competition, but like the article says, what’s the harm in entering?

Having gone on a lot of these rides, the concept of creating one is so awesome! The incredibly synthesis in these rides of things like visual effects and feedback, mechanical aspects for the physical movement, and even things like scents in Soarin' for an extra sensory experience blow my mind and are fascinating. This sort of technology is often so exclusive, however, that a regular person wouldn't have a chance to create anything like it. But why this contest is so awesome is because it opens up those rides to the public in a different way - instead of riding it and being a participant, you can be a creator and take part in it. I wish I had a drone to try my hand at making one of these videos, because the cinematography combined with the technology would be amazing to see with a video that I or someone I knew created.
