A quick-witted but lazy slave, Pseudolus (Jimmy Kieffer), yearns to be free. His young master, Hero (Jamen Nanthakumar), will grant him his freedom on one condition: Pseudolus must help the youth discover the identity of his lady love and conspire to unite them. Unfortunately, the object of Hero’s affection, Philia (Mary Elizabeth Drake), is promised to another.

I loved this article about “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” The images that were posted as a supplement were extremely colorful and every actor looked enthusiastic, excited, and energetic. The way the article was written was also very fun. While the plot feels recycled - unrequited love - the fact that this love story takes place during Ancient Rome creates a different time and place. I also find it ironic that I am in History of Democracy for Global Histories and that we are studying how current America originates from Rome. It feels as though “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” flips my Global Histories class on its head. Unrequited love is a story that has been told for centuries, however, Roman never performed musicals like we do in the present day. Overall this performance seems like a good deal of fun. I haven’t read a lot of comments about comedies, at least not without a serious lens as a perspective. This show sounds like a good time and just an opportunity to be apart of an audience who is simply sitting to watch and laugh.
