An Interview with Dr. Indira Etwaroo
THE INTERVAL: The Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn was founded in 1972 and came to prominence under the leadership of Marjorie Moon as a destination and breeding ground for black artists, but in recent years, has faced challenges from funding to demographic shifts in the neighborhood. In 2015, Dr. Etwaroo became Executive Director of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and The Billie Holiday Theatre, which is part of the organization, and continued its legacy of matriarchal leadership.
