Preeminent Craftspeople Abound at Creative Arts Emmys – PART ONE
Below the Line: At the first of two nights at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, craftspeople in all walks of broadcast and cable television, plus new media arts walked the red carpet and reveled in the honorary ceremony at the annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Surely, every possible facet of the process was awarded on September 9 and 10, 2017, including certain categories of performers, though the majority will have a separate September 17 ceremony.

I really enjoy this little glimpse into the many people who work so hard to create and support the entertainment industry. The people behind the scenes are so rarely recognized and while it is not for recognition but rather a commitment to our craft that compels most of us it is nice to see people take some notice to the work that is being done by many. I thought the references to hair and makeup in Hairspray Live, Dancing with the Stars and Saturday Night Live were fascinating. I can just picture the swarm of team members they mention all working quickly together to pull of a complicated change. I recently watched a video by Saturday Night Live of the amount of the process it takes to turn Melissa McCarthy into Sean Spicer. Throw the often short amount of time into the mix and you have quite the feat in front of you!
