Fall Arts Preview: Change is in the wind for theaters

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The coming of autumn heralds changes at the top at Pittsburgh Public Theater and City Theatre. Both 43-year-old companies open their 2017-18 seasons as farewells to outgoing, longtime leaders: Ted Pappas announced he was exiting the Public at the end of this season after 18 years in charge, and Tracy Brigden left City suddenly in June, after 16 years as artistic director.

This article is a great resource for theater-goers with the long list of shows happening in and around Pittsburgh from all of the professional theaters including Carnegie Mellon and Point Park University. Although I am not a Pittsburgh local (yet), the changes being made to the Public and the City I can imagine come as a shock to some avid theater goers. However, this change in management may help create a stronger theater scene by changing the direction the theaters were going, or it may give the theaters the opportunity to bring in someone brand new with fresh ideas and a new taste to add to the whole Pittsburgh Theater Scene. There are pros and cons to these types of changes, and hopefully, it's for the better.

I fully agree with Hannah that this was a great article to read as someone who is looking for a sort of "introduction" to the professional Pittsburgh theatre world. It is exciting to see the type of theatrical work that is being done in the city around us while we begin our educational careers in the same fields. And while I have not yet had the chance to see any productions from the Pittsburgh Public Theatre and the City Theatre, I will be interested not only to go to their productions under new directions and management, but also to hear reviews from those around me who have been able to see productions from multiple years of the theatre companies.
