Emily Takes Over TAIT & Shares What it is like to be an Intern at TAIT

www.taittowers.com: Hi I’m Emily Talbott and this is my TAIT Take Over.

Currently, I am an electrical engineer at the Colorado School of the Minds in Golden, CO but for the summer of 2017, I am an R+D intern for TAIT Towers.

Coming to work at TAIT really made sense for me. Growing up, I took art classes, music lessons and musical theater. At the same time, I was heavily involved in math and science and the world of STEM. So it really made sense for me to further my education and become an engineer.

I saw that Chris Norville cameo! Very exciting. It is cool to see the autonomy that TAIT gives their interns in Lititz. While in London I also had the same type of autonomy, it was very different work. Emily seems to really have a hands on role in the daily work that goes on at TAIT. Working for a company like that, even for just a little bit of time, really teaches a student so many life lessons and gives so many experiences that it is incredibly valuable. It’s very exciting that TAIT is producing these “TAIT take overs” especially this one featuring an intern. They really give you an insight into the company and how it operates from different perspectives. The fact that they use an intern also allows others looking for an internship to fully understand the type of work they might be doing and the environment they are doing it in.

The one take away from this video for me was the size of TAIT. I have never actually seen or been to the TAIT facility but everything that is said about it was just proven in this video. It is hard to imagine a place that could be that large. It almost seems to be never-ending. It is also fascinating to see the large-scale projects and the problems that each new project has that need a unique solution. I must say that would be a very cool environment to be part of. CMU Drama has sent a few of their students to TAIT in the past and every experience that I’ve heard of has been a positive one. Even from this short video, I can tell that there are a lot of elements that go into every project that comes out of TAIT and I look forward to seeing what some of the new tech that TAIT comes out with in the future.

It may sound odd, but I had never really about the fact that there is a need for electrical engineers and related fields at TAIT. I love that that this intern was able to combine her previous passion for theatre and art into what she was studying at college. I’m sure that TAIT looks for that in hiring, someone who has the technical knowledge but also has the passion that they all do in what they are producing and what the final product looks like. This video is also a great advertisement for their internships and certainly attracts those that may not have all the theatrical knowledge that a technical director may have. I sometimes struggled with applying to internships because it wasn’t clear what the actual responsibilities would be or a what a normal day may look like. This video does that and is a great plug for the company as a whole.

What an cool place to work, let alone intern. I at one point really did want to learn more about automation and how things work. Mostly to see if i could contribute to what was going on in the tech industry. I think my time for that is over as we have achieved so much already, and now I really just want to work on how to use all these new automation in an artistic way in the real world. From what it sounds like from this interview of an intern, is that the companies main goals is to create new automation apprentice and that seems to be what you would do as a intern. I think If i were to visit TAIT i would be more interested in the operation products and how to put them together to create truly unique designs. Maybe one day ill have the chance to do that.
