Amazon is turning its new TV show Lore into an immersive haunted house
The Verge: Recent projects like Westworld: The Experience have merged film and television with the world of in-person, immersive experiences, and now Amazon is embracing the concept with an interactive haunted house based on its upcoming new show Lore. Lore: A Haunting Experience will run from October through November in Los Angeles, and will take groups of eight visitors on an hour-long journey inspired by tales of folklore and scenes from the series.

The concept behind the new immersive experience for Amazon's new show Lore is a good idea for many aspects of the show itself. On one hand, it will stand alone as a piece of immersive work that will draw audiences solely because of its horror and adrenaline factors, and on the other hand, the immersive production stands as a huge piece of promotional material for Amazon and its new show. I think that if your television show fits this immersive format, as does Westworld and Bladerunner as mentioned in the article, and hopefully as does Lore, this is a great idea to get people excited to start viewing the show itself.
I saw an advertisement for this show and it looks like Amazon’s attempt at an “American Horror Story” crossed with a little bit of “Black Mirror” or “Twilight Zone” in regard to how the stories are told? I find it interesting from a marketing perspective that they are rolling out this experience 2 weeks before the show even premieres. What’s also intriguing about this project is that the television show is based on a podcast series, two very different mediums of storytelling. While they both allow for that idea of long, individual stories looped together through a theme or motif, one is very visual and one is aural. I’m not sure how that also is handled when you add the sensation of a real-life experience. My prediction is that they are using the podcast as a base and developing out from there. I will quickly say that Hollywood entertainment-centric haunted experiences tend to do very well and are heavily covered by the press and talk shows.
