According to Norman Coates, director of the lighting program in UNCSA’s renowned School of Design and Production (D&P) and founder of the Winston-Salem Light Project, the UNCSA group have helped stage the White House for its annual Halloween party tonight. More than 5,000 people are expected to pass through the event, including children of military families and area school children, who will trick-or-treat there. The President and First Lady typically give out treats during the event.

UNCSA ALL THE WAY! This is beyond impressive, and so so so cool.
I am always interested in other programs and their successes in the field, and of course, our own alumni. It is comforting to hear that programs, and alum really do come together to help us students land with successful jobs.
It just so happens that this project takes the cake.
Having the opportunity to work on such a large scale, highly televised event is such an opportunity. I am coming to learn that through events like Playground, and concerts, and events such as this one, Lighting Design is such an important and convenient tool to have under your belt. Not everyone needs a set, or a costume, however, almost all projects, require some sort of light and technology. Light is so accessible and simple, in essence, but has such strength and control over entire spaces and objects. All things technology are becoming more and more important as we and the theatre industry progresses and I think that as responsible theatre technicians we should have at least a general understanding of how those machines, and fixtures operate.
I think that lighting is similar to having a good voice, you can use it almost anywhere.
