Review: Pittsburgh Opera's 'Nabucco' is powerful, imaginative vision of Verdi classic

TribLIVE: An exceptionally impressive production of Giuseppe Verdi's “Nabucco” opened Pittsburgh Opera's season at the Benedum Center on Oct. 10, the 202nd anniversary of the composer's birth.

Verdi was 28 when he completed “Nabucco,” his third opera and his first real triumph. It was written in the “bel canto” era, exemplified by the operas of Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti, but, in some ways, Verdi already surpassed those masters.

I have no doubt Pittsburgh Opera's production should be great. I was an intern there last spring for one of their Handel’s production and I really love the working environment there. I like that they have a great team of people and although they are willing to take risk by having new interns and students being part of the show or even design the show for them, they already calculated the possible outcomes and all the backup plans in case something happened (and also they hire people from here with guaranteed from the people they trust) . They take risk within their control but also they trust the people that they are capable on doing what they expected (until they prove that they actually sucks). They have ways to encourage their employees and at the same time for intern, they treat you as professionals and also educate you at the same time.
