‘Mad Men’ Creator Matt Weiner on Turning Early Critics’ Barbs Into Success

Variety: As AMC prepares to air the “Mad Men” finale May 17, the show’s creator, Matt Weiner, harks back to his debut, 1996 microbudget film “What Do You Do All Day?” that he wrote, produced, directed and starred in. A Variety critic slammed the picture, but Weiner talked about how that whole experience fueled his subsequent work.

I love when a genius talks about the time he first failed but how he used that experience to fuel his success. a similar story happened with walt disney when he first started out. at the beginning he was actually fired for not being "creative enough". he also lost the rights to one of his first cartoons Oswald the rabbit. but he used that failure to make Mickey mouse as well as to make hid entertainment empire. like disney Matt Weiner was able to turn his mis fortune around and create one of the best , in my opinion, series to ever come on television. it has a story, it illustrates the emotions and dreams during the 60s, and you're able to follow a set of characters that have so many pros and cons, just like all of us watching on tv. I'm glad he got the success he deserves.
