Milwaukee M12 Fuel Circular Saw Preview

Tool Box Buzz Tool Box Buzz: Last August the Tool Box Buzz team attended the Milwaukee Tool New Product Symposium where they showed off a number of new tools. The M18 tools dominated most of our coverage articles but one tool we shared over our social media channels was the M12 Fuel Circular Saw. It is a completely new tool to the M12 line much like the M12 Polisher.

Wow, it is just so small. I feel like it is smaller than both of my hands put together! That being said, I definitely can see a use case for a cordless tool that is this small and lightweight, yet still able to cut 2 by stick lumber. For small jobs that I might have to go to, this would be great to just throw in a backpack or toolbag and not have to be too concerned about weight. I have used several larger Milwaukee circular saws and been pretty impressed with the low vibration and high speed. I wonder what the performance tradeoff is for the reduced size, besides, obviously, reduced plunge depth. My only concern with cordless saws is how long the battery lasts. I imagine though that the technology has improved somewhat since the last time I was moderately underwhelmed by battery life. I do like however that there is a battery gauge that shows (hopefully) accurately how much juice you have left. Not all cordless tools have that, surprising!

I feel like tools are getting smaller and smaller and less powerful. Tool companies are really focusing on their 12v lines trying to bring more power to a lighter tool. I personally don't see much of a use for this tool in the carpentry business but then again, there are probably times this tool would be helpful that I don't even know about. But my thought is that if you are going to cut something, you might as well just use a 7-1/4 circ saw as opposed to a small one. Now the benefits are the lack of a cord, yet there are other cordless saws that are more powerful and probably have a few more uses. however, I Norm Abram said on a recent episode of This Old House that the technology advances in 12v batteries have made them to be just as or almost as powerful as 18v
